Mr. Kh.Batjargal, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Development, held an online meeting on June 30, 2022, with the representatives led by Mr. Dimitri Gvindadze, Head of the Climate Strategy and Delivery team of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
During the meeting, Mr. Dimitri Gvindadze informed that the Bank is conducting a study to provide technical assistance to Mongolia in developing a long-term decarbonization strategy. Mr. Dimitri Gvindadze also clarified the role of the Ministry of Economy and Development in implementing green development policy in Mongolia, whether Mongolia has conducted a baseline study on the transition to a green economy in the past, and what policy measures have been taken.
Mr. Kh.Batjargal, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Development, provided information on the Ministry's mandate and its operation. Mr. Kh. Batjargal highlighted how green development policy issues are reflected in the development policy documents of Mongolia such as the “Vision-2050” long-term development policy of Mongolia, and the “Development Target Program” which is to be implemented over a 10-year period aimed at achieving the results of the first phase of the “Vision-2050” and the “New Recovery Policy” which is designed to strengthen Mongolia's economic independence, reduce the negative economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Mr. Kh.Batjargal also stated that the Ministry is working to ensure the coherence between the “Sustainable Development Goals” and the “Mongolia’s Nationally Determined Contributions” as well as to include the concept of utilizing green hydrogen as an energy source, which is one of the crucial issues not covered by the “Mongolia’s National Contributions Goals”, into the development policy documents.
Parties agreed to work closely together in the framework of technical assistance from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to develop a long-term decarbonization strategy for Mongolia.
